The 2019 Volvo VNR has 4 recalls, the most serious involving a fifth wheel coupling where an undersized slider bracket can allow a trailer to detach from the truck while underway.
On the drivetrain side, two related issues affect the transmission system. A fuse in the transmission circuit can blow and leave the transmission unable to shift gears. Separately, the air tank that supports the transmission auxiliary system is held by straps with t-bolt clasps that may have been overtightened, deforming the strap anchor point. If that connection lets go, the air tank can fall onto the road and become a hazard for other vehicles. There is also a labeling issue: the weight rating printed on the federal certification label for the rear drive axles overstates what the wheel hubs can actually handle, and if drivers load the axles to the labeled limit over time, the hubs can wear out prematurely and fail.
