4 recalls across 2 model years
The Volvo WAH has 4 recalls covering the 1997-1999 model years, with the most serious being two steering defects on 1999 models where ball socket wear in the drag link or tie rod assembly can cause complete loss of steering control.
The two 1999 steering issues share the same real-world consequence: a worn or separated ball stud can leave the driver unable to steer, with no warning before the failure occurs. There is also a 1999 trailer ABS wiring issue where the anti-lock brake signal may not reach the trailer, allowing trailer wheels to lock up and skid under hard braking. Going back to 1997, a brake manifold check valve disc can become brittle and crack over time; if a separate failure then hits either the primary or secondary air brake circuit, all service braking can be lost without warning.
