1999 Volvo Wah

The 1999 Volvo WAH has 3 recalls, the most serious being two separate steering failures that can cause complete loss of steering control and result in a crash.

Both steering recalls involve the front axle linkage: the tie rod ball stud can separate from its socket, and the drag link ball socket can wear through prematurely, either of which leaves the driver unable to steer the right steer axle. On a Class 8 truck, that kind of sudden steering loss at highway speed or in traffic gives the driver very little ability to recover. The third recall concerns the trailer cable junction box at the rear of the frame, where the anti-lock brake wiring may not carry power to the trailer's ABS system as required. Under a hard brake application, a trailer without functioning ABS can lock up its wheels and skid, increasing the risk of a jackknife or rear-end collision with the tractor.
