YAMAHA BOLT Recalls

The Yamaha Bolt has 3 recalls spanning the 2014-2021 model years, with the most serious being a wiring harness defect on 2014 models where slack in the harness allows it to contact the exhaust manifold, melt, and short circuit, causing the engine to stall while riding. The 2021 Bolt R-Spec has a separate recall for engine oil leaking from the base of the engine onto the road surface, where it can cause a loss of traction and lead to a crash. Going back to 2014, both the stalling risk and an overlapping wiring harness routing concern trace to the same underlying problem: the harness runs too close to the rear exhaust, heat damages the wires, and the engine can cut out without warning.
