Summary
The Acura MDX has 32 recalls spanning the 2000 through 2025 model years, with the most serious recent issue being a 2025 touchscreen software defect that causes the center display to go blank and prevents the rearview camera image from appearing when backing up.
The 2025 model year has this single active recall covering the blank display and rearview camera failure. On 2016-2018 models, fuel pump particulates can reduce fuel delivery until the engine stalls, and a separate fuel pump concern covers an even wider range of MDX production from 2013 through 2023, where pump failure can similarly cause an engine stall while driving. The 2018 model year also has a timing belt defect where teeth can separate and cause an engine stall, and certain 2018 models with power seats had improperly manufactured rivets securing the seat slide rails to the seat feet. On 2014-2020 vehicles, moisture can enter the tailgate light assembly and cause the taillights, license plate lights, and position lights to fail. The 2015 MDX has a fuel tank weld defect that can allow fuel to leak and create a fire risk near any ignition source.
The 2014 model year carries more recalls than any other: the automatic transmission drive shaft bolts can loosen and let the shaft detach; the collision mitigation braking system can apply emergency braking unexpectedly when it misreads metal roadside objects like guardrails; air conditioning compressor clutch bolts can corrode, break, and send the clutch plate onto the road; a trailer hitch wiring harness can be wired incorrectly, leaving trailer brakes without power and extending stopping distances when towing; seatbelts can fail to extend or retract in temperatures below minus 20 degrees Celsius; and a tail lamp water intrusion issue can blow a fuse and knock out all rear lighting.
Going further back, the 2012 MDX has a fuel tank vent valve that can fail and allow fuel to leak from the tank. The 2010 model year has an A-pillar trim bolt that may have been omitted during assembly, allowing the trim piece to break free during side curtain airbag deployment. On 2005-2006 models, the traction control system can apply sudden unexpected braking without illuminating the brake lights. The 2003 MDX had an airbag control module susceptible to electrical noise that can trigger unintended deployment of the front airbags, side curtain airbags, and seatbelt pretensioners while driving. The 2001 model year, particularly in salt-belt states and provinces, has front coil springs that can corrode, fracture, and puncture a front tire.
The most widespread recalls across the MDX's history involve Takata airbag inflators. On 2003-2006 models, the passenger-side frontal airbag inflator can rupture and send metal fragments into the cabin. Driver-side inflator recalls cover 2001-2006 production through several overlapping campaigns, and in some cases involve replacement inflators installed during earlier repairs that also carry the rupture risk. These inflator defects represent the most serious injury potential across the entire production run.
