The 2003 Acura MDX has 10 recalls, all involving the airbag system, with the most serious being Takata-style frontal airbag inflators on both the driver and passenger sides that can explode and send metal fragments into the cabin, causing serious injury or death.
The remaining recalls center on a separate but related concern: electrical noise in the airbag control module can cause the front airbags, side curtain airbags, and seatbelt pretensioners to deploy without a crash. An unexpected deployment while driving can startle the driver and cause a collision. Prior repair attempts did not fully resolve this inadvertent deployment issue, which is why multiple filings address the same underlying problem.
