Summary
The Audi e-tron has 15 recalls covering 2019 through 2024 model years, with the most serious being a brake pedal defect on 2019-2024 models where the fastener connecting the brake pedal to the brake booster can work loose, allowing the pedal to detach entirely and leaving the driver with no braking ability.
The same brake booster linkage issue also appears in a related form where the input rod itself can separate from the booster, reinforcing the braking loss risk across the 2019-2024 range. On 2021 models, two additional brake system issues exist: corrosion inside the brake booster can shut down anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control, and brake assist simultaneously, requiring greater pedal force and longer distances to stop; and an improperly welded rotor and shaft in the integrated brake system on 2020-2021 vehicles can separate, similarly disabling anti-lock brakes and stability control. A separate 2021 concern involves the glove box hinge pin, which can come loose and let the lid interfere with the knee airbag during deployment, preventing it from cushioning an occupant in a crash.
On the high-voltage battery side, 2019-2022 models have a recall where certain battery modules can overheat, raising the risk of fire. The 2019 model year has two additional charging-related fire risks: moisture can enter the high-voltage battery through a faulty seal on the charging socket and cause a short circuit, and the plug on the 220-volt compact charging cable can be damaged by a household outlet, allowing the cable to overheat during charging. A separate charging cable recall covering 2019-2024 vehicles addresses overheating at the outlet or cable that can also lead to fire.
Going back to 2021, a software issue can prevent the rearview camera from displaying an image when the vehicle is shifted into reverse, reducing visibility while backing up. The same rearview camera software defect also appears on certain 2019 models.
