5 recalls across 4 model years
The BMW F 800 GS has 5 recalls, with the most serious affecting 2008-2009 models where an out-of-spec drive chain can break over time and, if it lodges between the rear wheel and the frame, lock the rear wheel and cause a crash.
The 2025 model year has a recall for bikes equipped with the optional emergency call system, where a software error can deactivate the system so that first responders do not receive crash notification or location data in an emergency. Going back to early production, 2008 models have a separate drivetrain issue where chain sprocket fasteners may have been torqued inconsistently during assembly, allowing them to work loose from the sprocket and raise the risk of a crash. On 2009 models, a small number of bikes have an axle shaft with insufficient wall thickness that can deform or break, also increasing crash risk. On 2008-2010 models, water can enter the evaporative emissions canister through the fresh air intake, causing the engine to stall unexpectedly.
