8 recalls across 12 model years
The BMW X6 M has 8 recalls spanning 2008 through 2020, with the most serious recent issues being suspension and steering defects on 2018-2020 models where failed welds, loose bolts, or broken control arms can cause sudden loss of vehicle control.
The 2020 model year carries three separate suspension and steering concerns. A weld between the front axle support and the right front control arm bracket can separate, destabilizing the front end. Separately, the steering column shaft bearing plate can work loose, reducing the driver's ability to steer accurately. There is also a risk that the rear spoiler can detach from the roof while driving and become a road hazard for other vehicles. On 2019 models, rear upper control arm pivot bolts can fail, causing the control arm itself to break and sharply affecting handling. Wheel bolts on 2018-2019 vehicles may not have been properly tightened at the factory and can loosen and break over time, with similar consequences for vehicle control. The 2018 model year has an additional concern where front suspension mounting bolts may be undertightened, again affecting handling stability.
The 2015-2019 model years have a recall covering the rear seat child restraint lower anchor bars. Repeated use with rigid ISOFIX-style connectors can damage the anchor bars over time, reducing their ability to hold a child seat securely in a crash.
Going further back, 2008-2012 models with turbocharged engines have a recall involving a circuit board in the turbocharger system that can overheat and start a fire.
