The 1998 Buick Skylark has 4 recalls, the most serious being a fire risk from the ignition switch: if the engine fails to start and the driver holds the key in the "Start" position too long, the switch can overheat, melt internally, and start a fire in the steering column, even after the engine is off and the key is removed.
The remaining recalls both involve aftermarket replacement parts sold for this vehicle. A Delphi aftermarket fuel pressure regulator was produced without an O-ring and retainer, which can cause fuel to leak and create a fire risk. Separately, certain Delphi aftermarket fuel pump modules were assembled with two internal tubes reversed, which can cause the engine to run rough, stall, or allow fuel to leak from the evaporative emissions canister, also raising the risk of fire or a crash from an unexpected stall.
