28 recalls across 15 model years
The Buick LaCrosse has 28 recalls spanning the 2005–2019 production run, with the most serious recent issue affecting 2017 models where rear suspension toe links were installed incorrectly and can disconnect from the suspension, causing sudden loss of vehicle control.
The 2017 model year also has two separate recalls for the electric power steering connectors, which can allow water intrusion and corrosion that causes the steering assist to cut out, requiring significantly more effort to steer. The 2018–2019 model years share a transmission start-stop accumulator recall where missing bolts can cause fluid to leak and eventually cut power to the wheels; on 2018 models specifically, that same fluid leak onto a hot surface raises a fire risk. The 2018 model year has an additional concern with the high-pressure fuel pump, which can detach and damage the fuel line, also creating a fire risk. On 2018–2019 vehicles, rear brake caliper pistons can develop internal gas pockets that reduce braking performance.
The 2014–2016 model years have a recall where a software defect in the airbag control module can prevent front airbags and seatbelt pretensioners from deploying in a crash. The 2015 model year has a separate side airbag inflator that can rupture during deployment, sending fragments into the cabin rather than properly inflating. The 2014 model year has a brake rotor mismatch where a thinner rear rotor was installed at the front, accelerating pad wear and reducing braking effectiveness. A wiring splice in the driver's door on some 2014 vehicles can corrode and silence the key-in-ignition chime, removing a warning against rollaway.
The 2012–2013 model years, on eAssist-equipped vehicles, have a generator control module that can fail, drain the battery, stall the engine, and in some cases produce smoke or fire in the trunk area. The 2012 model year also has a stability control system that may be incorrectly calibrated, causing it to activate unexpectedly at higher speeds or fail to warn the driver when it stops working. The 2010–2013 model years, particularly those registered in salt-belt states, have rear suspension toe links that can corrode, fracture, and reduce the driver's ability to control the vehicle.
Going further back, the 2011 model year has a climate control software issue that can disable the ability to adjust heating and defrost settings, potentially leaving the windshield unable to clear in cold conditions. The 2010 model year has a separate rear toe link coating defect where rust can cause the link to break and affect directional stability. The 2005–2009 model years have a headlamp recall where the lamps can fail to illuminate, reducing visibility for the driver and making the vehicle harder for others to see. The 2005 model year has a brake pushrod clip that can bend and separate, leaving the brake pedal with no connection to the brakes and no warning before the failure.
