Summary
The Buick Verano has 13 recalls spanning the 2012-2016 production run, with the most serious being a fuel line routing defect on 2016 turbocharged models where the line can wear against the engine surface, develop a leak, and create a fire risk.
The 2016 model year also has a recall where a damaged electronic park lock lever in the steering column can allow the ignition key to be removed while the transmission is not in park, leaving the vehicle free to roll. On the airbag side, 2014 models have two distinct issues. The roof-rail airbags above the headliner on both sides of the cabin can rupture at their inflator weld joints and either partially inflate or send metal fragments into or out of the vehicle. Separately, the side curtain airbag inflator on 2014 vehicles can rupture at its weld joint and trigger the side curtain airbag to deploy without any crash occurring, potentially striking occupants without warning. Prior repair attempts on some 2014 vehicles did not fully resolve this second issue, leading to additional rounds of the same fix.
The 2013 model year has a driver-side front airbag inflator that can rupture during deployment, causing the bag to fail to inflate properly and sending fragments toward the driver. There is also a 2013-specific issue where an intermittent electrical ground connection can keep the engine running briefly after the ignition is switched off when certain lights are on. The 2013 rear seat head restraints can drop one position under load when set to their highest adjustment, exceeding the allowable movement under safety standards.
Going back to the 2012 model year, the driver's airbag can fail to fire at all during a crash, leaving the driver without that protection.
