The 2006 Cadillac CTS has 4 recalls, the most serious involving a fuel pump that can overheat and melt the surrounding flange, leaking fuel and stalling the vehicle, and a brake line that can rupture without warning and extend stopping distances — both raising crash risk. Note that the fuel pump recall only affects CTS-V trim vehicles, and the brake line recall applies only to vehicles registered or originally sold in certain northern and midwestern states where road salt corrosion is common.
Two recalls involve airbags. A heavy keychain can pull the ignition key slightly out of the run position while driving, and if that happens during a crash, the airbags may not deploy. The fix is to remove everything from the key ring except the ignition key until the repair is done. The second airbag issue involves the sensor mat under the front passenger seat, which can kink or fold over time and lose its electrical connections, causing the passenger airbag to stay off in a crash even when a passenger is present.
