The 2006 Cadillac DTS has 4 recalls, the most serious involving two separate fire risks: a power steering fluid leak that can ignite under the hood, and an overheating circuit in the optional heated washer fluid system that can cause smoke or fire.
On the steering side, the power steering pressure hose can separate at a crimp fitting, allowing fluid to spray onto hot engine components and ignite. The same leak also reduces hydraulic assist, making the steering wheel noticeably harder to turn at low speeds such as in parking lots or tight turns. This issue only affects vehicles with the V8 engine. The heated washer fluid system, available as an optional accessory on certain trims, carries its own fire risk through a different path: a short circuit on the heater's printed circuit board can overheat the ground wire, which may cause other electrical features to stop working, produce smoke, or in some cases start a fire. It is worth noting that an earlier repair attempt for the heated washer fluid issue did not fully resolve the problem, and new reports of heat-related incidents led to the current recall.
