The 2013 Cadillac Escalade ESV has 3 recalls, the most serious being a defective passenger-side frontal airbag inflator that can explode and send metal fragments into the cabin, causing serious injury or death.

This airbag defect is the well-known Takata inflator issue, and these recalls apply to vehicles originally sold or registered in high-humidity states and territories including Florida, Hawaii, Texas, California, and others in the southern U.S. and Pacific regions. When the airbag deploys, the inflator can rupture rather than inflate the bag cleanly, turning the housing into a source of shrapnel directed at the front passenger. There is also a separate mechanical concern involving the park lock cable and steering lock module. If either component is fractured or defective, the transmission may not hold the vehicle in park as expected or the steering lock may not function correctly, raising the risk of an unintended rollaway.
