Two recalls address the same underlying concern with rear seatbelts: the retractors for both the left and right rear seats may be secured with loose or missing fasteners, meaning neither belt may hold properly in a crash. Because the retractor anchors the belt to the vehicle structure, a loose or absent fastener allows the retractor to move or detach, which can let the belt feed out freely at the moment it needs to lock and restrain an occupant. Prior repair attempts did not fully resolve the issue, which is why separate campaigns exist for this defect.
On the visibility side, both recalls cover the same rearview camera failure and apply only to vehicles equipped with the optional Surround Vision feature. The video processing module can lose contact with the camera, causing the screen to show nothing when the driver shifts into reverse. Without that image, the driver has a reduced view of the area directly behind the vehicle while backing up.
