6 recalls across 8 model years
The Chevrolet Avalanche has 6 recalls covering the 2007-2013 model years, the most serious being a Takata passenger-side airbag inflator defect affecting 2007-2013 vehicles where the inflator can rupture and send metal fragments into the cabin, causing serious injury or death.
The airbag inflator issue spans the entire production run of the second-generation Avalanche and is the dominant concern across these recalls. The defect is tied to geographic registration: vehicles originally sold or ever registered in high-humidity states and territories, including Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas, and several US territories, carry elevated risk because moisture accelerates the inflator's deterioration. If you have ever lived in or registered the vehicle in one of these regions, the recall applies regardless of where the vehicle is located now.
The remaining recall affects 2007-2009 models equipped with an optional heated washer fluid system. The module that heats the washer fluid can overheat and ignite, starting a fire. This recall is limited to vehicles that were ordered with that specific option.
