2010 Chevrolet Avalanche

The 2010 Chevrolet Avalanche has 3 recalls, all concerning the same defect: a passenger-side frontal airbag inflator that can explode and send sharp metal fragments into the cabin, causing serious injury or death.

This is part of the well-known Takata airbag issue affecting a wide range of vehicles. The inflator inside the passenger-side airbag can rupture with excessive force during deployment, turning internal metal components into projectiles that strike occupants rather than protecting them. The multiple recalls exist because the affected population was identified in stages, each campaign targeting vehicles originally sold or registered in high-humidity regions such as Florida, Hawaii, Texas, Louisiana, and other Gulf and coastal states, where heat and moisture accelerate the inflator's degradation over time. Regardless of which specific campaign covers this vehicle, the physical hazard is the same: a part designed to cushion a crash can instead become the source of injury. Any 2010 Avalanche that has not yet received the replacement inflator module remains at risk.
