2004 Chevrolet Impala

The 2004 Chevrolet Impala has 3 recalls, the most serious being an engine oil leak that drips onto the hot exhaust manifold and can start an engine fire.

The oil leak issue stems from the engine's valve cover or related seals allowing oil to escape and contact exhaust surfaces that run hot enough to ignite it. This is not a slow-developing concern — oil on a hot exhaust manifold can produce smoke or flames while the engine is running. The third recall involves the ignition switch, which can unintentionally move out of the run position while driving, particularly if the key ring carries extra weight from fobs, keychains, or other items. When the ignition slips to the accessory or off position, the airbag system loses power and the bags will not deploy in a crash. Until this recall is addressed, GM advises removing everything from the key ring except the ignition key itself, including any attached key fob.
