7 recalls across 4 model years
The Chrysler Cirrus has 7 recalls spanning the 1995-2000 production run, with the most serious being a brake line defect on 2000 models where a faulty weld can cause the right front brake tube to fatigue and fail, resulting in the loss of braking at one half of the system. The 2000 model year also has an incorrect child safety lock label on the rear doors that instructs the wrong action to engage the lock, which can leave the lock disengaged and allow a rear passenger to open the door from inside.
On 1996 models, the hood latch spring can shift out of position when the hood is closed, defeating both the primary and secondary latches and allowing the hood to fly up while driving. There is also a compliance issue on 1996 models where the powertrain control module can fail to keep carbon monoxide emissions within the required limit.
Going back to 1995, an engine oil gallery plug can lose retention and allow oil to leak onto hot engine components, creating a fire risk in the engine compartment. On 1995 models equipped with anti-lock brakes, corrosion inside the ABS hydraulic control unit can cause solenoid valves to stick open, making the vehicle pull to one side under hard braking. The 1998 model year has a catalytic converter where incompatible weld material can cause the converter shell to rust at the seams and fail prematurely.
