The 2008 Dodge Challenger has 5 recalls, the most serious involving the driver and passenger frontal airbag inflators, which can rupture during deployment and send metal fragments into the cabin, causing serious injury.
Both airbag inflator concerns affect the front of the vehicle: the driver-side inflator is susceptible to moisture buildup over time that can cause it to burst, while a separate inflator issue can produce excessive internal pressure during deployment, either sending fragments toward occupants or damaging the module so the airbag fails to deploy at all. The passenger-side frontal airbag inflator carries a similar rupture risk.
The remaining two recalls both involve the keyless ignition system on vehicles equipped with the "Keyless Go" option. If the engine is shut off by pressing and holding the start/stop button, the vehicle can be left without the key recognized inside, and without the transmission properly secured, raising the risk of an unintended rollaway.
