The 2009 Dodge Challenger has 6 recalls, the most serious involving both front airbag inflators, which can rupture and send metal fragments into the cabin, raising the risk of serious injury or death.
The driver-side airbag inflator can absorb moisture over time and rupture during deployment. The passenger-side inflator carries the same rupture risk, and that recall is specifically scoped to vehicles sold or registered in high-humidity states and territories. There is also a suspension concern: on certain vehicles, the front wheel spindle nut may have been left out during assembly, which can allow the entire wheel and hub assembly to separate from the vehicle while driving. On the equipment side, some vehicles were fitted with Kidde fire extinguishers that may not discharge properly when needed. Finally, the tire pressure monitoring sensors on certain vehicles may not report accurate readings, leaving the driver unaware of a low tire.
