The 2017 Dodge Charger has 4 recalls, the most serious involving driveshaft and drivetrain failures that can leave debris on the road or cut power while driving, raising the risk of a crash.
Two recalls affect all-wheel drive models specifically. On pursuit police-package vehicles with AWD and a V8, the front driveshaft's universal joint can seize or break and send the shaft onto the road as a hazard for other vehicles. On AWD models more broadly, front driveshaft bolts can loosen until the shaft disconnects entirely, causing a sudden loss of drive power. On Hellcat-equipped models, engine oil cooler hoses can fail and spray oil onto the windshield or onto hot engine surfaces, cutting visibility or starting a fire. There is also a software recall affecting the cruise control system, which can fail to disengage when the driver attempts to deactivate it, leaving the vehicle holding or building speed against the driver's input.
