The 2001 Dodge Stratus has 9 recalls, the most serious being a crankshaft position sensor wiring harness that can wear through and ground out, causing the engine to stall unexpectedly, and a steering gear nut that was not fully tightened, which can cause steering vibration, stiff steering, or a complete inability to turn left.
Three recalls involve the passenger airbag and sun visor area. The airbag door may not stay attached during deployment and could strike an occupant, and on certain vehicles the passenger-side sun visor can detach and fly rearward toward occupants. One of those sun visor recalls specifically affects vehicles with beige interiors where a prior repair used an incorrect part and did not fully resolve the issue. On the drivetrain side, automatic transmission fluid cooler hoses can weaken and leak, causing transmission performance problems and smoke if fluid contacts the exhaust pipe. A driver's seat mounting bolt concern means the seat may not hold properly in a crash, raising the risk of driver injury. An interior sound-dampening pad can separate from the body panel and fall onto the rear map light, where it can melt and produce smoke inside the cabin. There is also a fuel return hose that lacks adequate ozone resistance and can degrade over time.
