6 recalls across 1 model year
The Fisker Karma has 6 recalls, all affecting the 2012 model year, with the most serious being a defective passenger frontal airbag inflator that can rupture and send metal fragments into the cabin, causing serious injury or death.
The airbag inflator recall covers all 2012 Karma vehicles regardless of where they are registered, with filings organized by state but together covering the full United States. This is the well-documented Takata-type inflator issue that affects vehicles across many makes.
Two separate fire risks stem from the high-voltage battery system. On vehicles built between July and November 2011, and again on those built between September 2011 and January 2012, hose clamps inside the battery pack can be mispositioned so that the battery compartment cover presses against them, causing coolant to leak into the battery compartment and potentially start a fire. There is also a cooling fan defect across the broader 2012 production run where the low-temperature cooling fan can develop an electrical short, igniting the fan housing and surrounding components and causing a vehicle fire even when the car is otherwise operating normally.
