The 1978 Ford F-100 has 3 recalls, the most serious involving steel wheels that can develop cracks in the rim where the tire seats, causing a rapid loss of air pressure similar to a blowout.
This recall only affects trucks equipped with 15x6 inch standard or optional styled steel wheels. On 4x4 models, a seatbelt shoulder restraint bracket on the driver's side was incorrectly modified during assembly and may not hold under crash forces, meaning the belt could fail to restrain the driver when it matters most. There is also an emissions-related concern where a fuel vapor purge valve in the evaporative emissions system can come disconnected, releasing a small amount of fuel vapor into the air.
