59 recalls across 12 model years
The Ford F-250 SD has 59 recalls covering 2015 through 2026, with the most serious recent issue being a 2025 model year recall where a missing brake booster pushrod retaining spring can allow the pushrod to disconnect from the brake pedal, causing a sudden and complete loss of braking.
The 2025 and 2026 model years have several additional safety concerns. On 2025-2026 vehicles, the rear driveshaft friction weld can fail and the shaft can separate, causing an abrupt loss of drive power. A separate 2025 issue involves the steering column shifter detaching from the column, which prevents the driver from selecting Park and can allow the vehicle to roll away. The 2025-2026 instrument panel cluster can also fail to start up, leaving the driver without a speedometer or warning lights. On 2025 models, cracked fuel return line connectors can leak diesel into the engine compartment near hot components, raising the risk of fire.
The 2023 and 2024 model years carry their own cluster of issues. A 2023 recall covers steering column upper shaft bolts that may be missing or loose, which can disconnect the column and eliminate steering control entirely. Also on 2023 models, a rear axle shaft on single-rear-wheel configurations can break, causing loss of drive power or rollaway when parked. The 2023 driver's frontal airbag can be deactivated by a faulty clock spring weld, and the instrument panel cluster can go dark due to a soldering defect. Rearview camera image failures affect 2023-2024 vehicles through multiple separate issues, including water intrusion into a tailgate sensor module and software problems that leave the camera blank or frozen. Power windows on 2023 models may fail to reverse when they contact an obstruction.
The 2020-2022 era has a high concentration of drivetrain and fuel system recalls. On 2020-2022 diesel models, biodiesel deposits can cause the high-pressure fuel pump to fail and cut drive power; an earlier repair attempt for this issue did not fully resolve it on some vehicles. The 2022 model year has a driver airbag cover that can shatter and send fragments into the cabin during a crash, and damaged side-impact pressure sensors that can prevent side airbags from deploying. On 2022 vehicles, a software error can disable electric trailer brakes, extending stopping distances when towing; a prior repair attempt for this issue was also found to be incomplete on some vehicles. The 2020 model year has two separate transmission concerns: a disintegrating washer can jam the Park mechanism and allow rollaway, and an untempered torque converter damper plate can fracture and cause an engine stall or require significantly harder brake pedal effort to stop. A 2021 diesel fuel filter cap can develop a pinhole and leak fuel. Windshields on 2020-2021 vehicles may not be properly bonded and can separate in a crash. Wiper arms on 2020-2022 models can break and leave the driver without wipers in wet conditions.
Going back to the 2017-2019 range, gasoline-engine 2017-2022 models with aluminum driveshafts are subject to a recall where loose underbody heat shields can contact and fracture the driveshaft, causing loss of drive power or the shaft striking the ground. On 2017-2018 four-wheel-drive models, a driveshaft internal damper can shift out of position, cause imbalance,
