The 1979 Ford F-250 has 3 recalls, the most serious affecting four-wheel-drive models where a steering arm knuckle can fracture, detach the tie rod from the steering linkage, and cause a sudden and complete loss of steering control.
The remaining two recalls affect specific configurations. On regular cab, two-wheel-drive trucks with a 6,200 or 6,900 pound gross vehicle weight rating, the front disc brake hub and rotor assemblies were built with components intended for the 1980 model year. As the inner brake linings wear down, they can slip out of the shoe slot, which may reduce braking effectiveness. There is also a fuel system concern: certain trucks were built without a protective shield at the right front corner of the midship fuel tank, and in a frontal collision the tank can contact the transmission housing or front driveshaft joint, raising the risk of fuel system damage.
