The 2018 Ford F-550 SD has 3 recalls, the most serious being a fire risk in SuperCrew Cab models with carpet flooring, where sparks from a deploying front seatbelt pretensioner in a crash can ignite carpeting or insulation inside the B-pillar area.
On the engine side, this recall only affects trucks equipped with a block heater that were previously repaired under an earlier recall campaign, as that prior repair may have left the block heater cable's splice connector damaged. A damaged connector can create a resistive short that overheats or melts the surrounding wiring, raising the risk of an under-hood fire. There is also a visibility concern: the rearview camera can display a distorted, inverted, or blank image when the vehicle is in reverse, reducing the driver's ability to see what is directly behind the truck while backing up.
