The 2017 Ford F-550 has 5 recalls, the most serious being a door latch that can open during a side-impact collision on vehicles where a chrome door handle cover accessory kit was installed over the original handle, raising the risk of occupant ejection or injury.
On certain trucks equipped with an engine block heater, water and corrosion can damage the heater cable's splice connector, and when the heater is plugged in, the resulting resistive short can overheat or melt the wiring and start a fire. Several recalls affect specific emergency vehicle conversions built on the F-550 chassis: brake lights on certain fire truck and ambulance upfits can illuminate without the brake pedal being pressed, which can confuse following drivers and raise the risk of a rear-end crash. One ambulance conversion has a separate visibility issue where the backup camera monitor can display a mirrored image, causing the driver to steer the wrong direction when reversing.
