The 1978 Ford Fiesta has 3 recalls, the most serious involving dealer-installed air conditioning units where a misrouted resistor wire can contact the plastic blower housing, and if the blower motor jams, the heat buildup can ignite the housing and cause a vehicle fire.
On vehicles equipped with 4.50 x 12 inch steel wheels, the tire valve stem holes may be mislocated, allowing air to leak from the valve stem seat at high speeds. That slow pressure loss can cause the car to pull to one side, the tire to overheat, or the tire to fail outright. There is also a labeling issue: vehicles fitted with 155 SR-12 tires have a placard that incorrectly lists 145 SR-12 tires as an acceptable replacement size, and installing the smaller tire does not meet the applicable tire selection standard.
