1990 Ford L Series

The 1990 Ford L Series has 3 recalls, all involving the steering system and each capable of causing a complete loss of steering control while driving.

Two of the recalls involve the tilt-and-telescope steering column, where a clamping bolt may be the wrong part or insufficiently tightened. Over time, this can cause the coupling to separate from the steering column entirely, or wear the splines down until the coupling spins freely and steering input no longer reaches the wheels. The third recall involves the intermediate steering shaft, which may not have enough spline engagement, allowing excessive side-to-side play to develop at the steering wheel and eventually causing the shaft to disengage.
