7 recalls across 10 model years
The Harley-Davidson FLHTCU has 7 recalls spanning 2008 through 2019, with the most serious being an oil cooler line that can detach on 2017 models, spilling engine oil onto the rear tire and causing a sudden loss of traction.
The clutch system accounts for three separate recalls across multiple model years. On 2017-2018 models, the clutch can fail to fully disengage while the engine is running and the bike is in gear, causing the motorcycle to move unexpectedly. The same clutch disengagement problem affects 2016 models through a related issue. Going back to 2014-2015 models, an earlier version of this clutch fault carries the same consequence: the bike can lurch forward without warning when the rider expects it to be stationary.
The 2014-2015 model years also have a saddlebag mounting issue where a bag can separate from the motorcycle while riding and become a road hazard for other vehicles.
On 2017-2019 models equipped with a Detachable Tour-Pak Luggage Conversion Kit, the rear red reflectors may be absent, reducing the motorcycle's visibility to drivers behind it at night.
Going back to the earliest production years covered here, 2008-2011 models with anti-lock brakes can develop internal deposits in the ABS hydraulic control unit that cause a valve to stick, reducing braking effectiveness.
