7 recalls across 11 model years
The Harley-Davidson FLHTK has 7 recalls spanning 2010 through 2022, with the most serious being a clutch defect on 2014-2018 models where the clutch cannot fully disengage, causing the motorcycle to move unexpectedly while in gear and raising the risk of a crash.
The clutch issue appears across three separate year ranges. On 2017-2018 models, a failure to disengage can cause loss of control. The same underlying problem affects 2016 models and, going back further, 2014-2015 models as well. In all cases, the motorcycle can lurch forward when the rider expects it to be stationary.
On 2020-2022 models, a software error causes the brake lights to illuminate without the rider touching the brake lever, which can confuse following drivers and lead to unexpected reactions in traffic. Going back to 2017-2019 models equipped with a Detachable Tour-Pak Luggage Conversion Kit, the rear red reflectors may be absent, reducing how visible the motorcycle is to drivers behind it at night.
On the braking side, 2010-2011 models with anti-lock brakes can develop deposits inside the ABS hydraulic control unit that cause a valve to stick, reducing braking effectiveness. The 2014-2015 model years also have a saddlebag mounting issue where the bag can separate from the motorcycle while riding and become a road hazard for other vehicles.
