The 2019 Honda Civic Type R has 3 recalls, the most serious involving the front passenger seat sensor, which can misread the occupant and deploy the airbag incorrectly in a crash, raising the risk of injury.
The fuel pump inside the fuel tank can fail on this vehicle, cutting fuel delivery and stalling the engine without warning while driving. A sudden stall at speed leaves the driver without power steering or full braking assistance, and the car becomes a hazard to surrounding traffic until it can be safely guided to a stop. There is also the occupant classification sensor concern noted above, where the system that determines whether the front passenger seat is occupied by an adult, child, or no one at all may not read the situation correctly, causing the airbag to fire when it should not or in a way that does not match the occupant's size and position.
