The 2000 Hyundai Accent has 6 recalls, the most serious being a throttle that can freeze in cold weather and stick open, causing the engine to idle too fast or fail to slow down when the driver lifts off the gas. This throttle freezing issue affects vehicles with 1.5 or 1.6 liter engines registered in certain cold-weather states. A separate structural concern applies to 3-door hatchback models: the A-pillar, the post between the windshield and front door, does not absorb impact energy adequately and raises the risk of head injury if an occupant strikes it in a crash.
The remaining recalls all involve the windshield wipers. A rubber boot covering the joint between the wiper motor drive arm and the wiper linkage can bind or separate, causing the wipers to stop moving even while the motor continues running. Prior repair attempts did not fully resolve the issue, which is why multiple recalls address the same wiper linkage separation problem. Loss of wiper function in rain or snow significantly reduces the driver's ability to see the road.
