1999 HYUNDAI ELANTRA Recalls — Canada & USA

The 1999 Hyundai Elantra has two recalls, the more serious being an automatic transmission fluid leak that can cause the transmission to slip and leave the vehicle unable to accelerate normally when the driver presses the gas pedal. The transmission leak comes from seals inside the pressure control solenoid valve that lose their elasticity over time, allowing fluid to escape and reducing pressure to the clutch and brake components inside the transmission. Extended slippage can also wear down those internal friction surfaces, potentially worsening the problem over time. The second recall involves the mass airflow sensor, where engine vibration can disrupt the electrical signal to the sensor and cause the engine to stall unexpectedly at low speeds, raising the risk of a crash.
