The 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe has 4 recalls, the most serious being a tow hitch wiring harness that can short circuit and cause a fire, even when the vehicle is parked and switched off.
The wiring harness issue affects vehicles equipped with a 4-pin accessory trailer wiring harness, either installed as original equipment or purchased through a dealership. Over time, the harness can fail, overheat the control module, and start a fire without any warning to the driver. The remaining two recalls both describe the same side curtain airbag defect: the mounting bolts that hold the airbags in place can contact and tear the airbag material during deployment, so in a crash the curtain airbags may not fully inflate, leaving occupants with less cushioning than the system is designed to provide.
