Summary
The Indian Scout has 11 recalls spanning 1999 to 2025, with the most serious recent issue affecting 2025 Scout and Scout Sixty models where a software error causes the gear position display to falsely show neutral when the transmission is actually in gear, potentially causing the motorcycle to move unexpectedly. On 2017-2018 Scout, Scout Sixty, and Scout Bobber models, air left in the anti-lock brake system during assembly can reduce braking effectiveness and lengthen stopping distances. The 2015 model year has two brake-related recalls: the rear brake master cylinder can lose partial or full braking power, and an accessory brake lever sold for the Scout and Scout Bobber can have its adjustment screw set incorrectly, causing the front brake to apply on its own and progressively lock the front wheel while riding.
The remaining recalls are concentrated in the early production years. On 2002 models, the fuel tank can crack at a welded bracket joint and leak fuel, and the gas tank vent tube can clog with debris, either starving the engine of fuel or building enough pressure to push fuel past the filler cap seal, creating a fire risk in both cases. The 2001 model year has several issues: an undersized front tire tube that can deflate and cause a crash, front fork pinch bolts that may not clamp the axle tightly enough to prevent it from rotating, a headlight bracket that can crack and let the light slip out of position or fall off, and windshield mounting fasteners that can break and allow the windshield to detach while riding. The 1999 model year, equipped with Compufire series voltage regulators, can experience the regulator sticking in a mode that allows battery voltage to feed back through it, which can cause the regulator to catch fire.
