2001 Indian Scout

The 2001 Indian Scout has 4 recalls, the most serious involving front suspension and tire issues that can lead to loss of control: the front fork pinch bolts may lack the strength to hold the axle in place, and an undersized inner tube in the front wheel can deflate without warning.

If the front axle rotates due to loose fork clamps, the wheel's alignment and braking response can be compromised at the worst possible moment. The undersized front tube failure is separate but equally abrupt, as a sudden deflation at speed gives the rider very little time to react before losing stability. There is also a windshield concern: the fasteners that bolt the windshield to its mounting clamps can fracture, allowing the windshield to partially or fully detach while riding. A windshield coming free at highway speed can strike the rider directly or create a distraction that leads to a crash. Rounding out the list, the bracket that holds the teardrop headlight can crack or break, causing the light to drop out of position or fall off entirely and leaving the rider without forward illumination at night.
