The 2001 Indian Scout has 4 recalls, the most serious involving two front-end safety issues: an undersized inner tube in the front tire that can deflate unexpectedly, and front fork pinch bolts that may lack the strength to keep the axle from rotating.
Both defects affect the front wheel and steering, and either could cause loss of control. On the hardware side, the windshield mounting fasteners can break while riding, allowing the windshield to detach partially or fully and strike the rider. There is also a lighting concern: the bracket holding the teardrop headlight can crack and break, causing the light to drop or shift out of position and leaving the rider without proper forward visibility at night.
