Summary
The INFINITI FX45 has 5 recalls spanning the 2003–2011 model years, with the most serious being a passenger-side front airbag inflator defect on 2003–2011 vehicles where the inflator can rupture and send metal fragments into the cabin, potentially causing serious injury or death.
The airbag system accounts for two of the five recalls. On 2005 models, the passenger frontal airbag propellant can degrade over time due to heat and humidity cycling, causing the airbag to deploy with excessive force in a crash. The 2003–2011 inflator rupture issue and the 2005 over-deployment concern are related but distinct problems, both centered on the passenger frontal airbag.
The 2003 model year has three additional recalls. The fuel filler hose on those vehicles can crack from ozone exposure, allowing fuel to leak during refueling; if an ignition source is nearby, that leak can ignite. Also on 2003 models, the front brake caliper mounting bolts may not be torqued sufficiently, which can allow an upper bolt to fall out, letting the caliper rotate and contact the inside of the wheel with noticeable noise and vibration. There is also a compliance issue on 2003 models where the headlamp vertical light gradient does not meet Canadian safety standards.
