The 2008 Infiniti FX45 has 4 recalls, all involving the front passenger airbag, with the most serious being a Takata inflator that can rupture and send metal fragments into the cabin, causing serious injury or death.
The three inflator recalls describe the same underlying defect and should be understood as one issue: the front passenger airbag inflator can explode with too much force, breaking apart and throwing sharp metal pieces toward anyone seated in the vehicle. There is also a separate concern for vehicles that previously had the front passenger airbag assembly replaced under an earlier recall. In those cases, the replacement airbag cushion was folded incorrectly, which can cause it to tear during deployment and reduce the protection it provides in a crash.
