The KIA EV6 has 9 recalls covering 2022–2024 model years, the most serious being a high-voltage battery defect on all three model years where misaligned electrodes inside the battery cells can cause a fire while the vehicle is parked or being driven.
The integrated charging control unit is a recurring concern across the entire 2022–2024 production run. This component can degrade over time and stop keeping the 12-volt battery charged, which causes the vehicle to drop into a reduced power mode and can ultimately cut drive power entirely while moving. Warning lights and messages appear before power is lost. Prior repair attempts did not fully resolve this issue, which is why it has been addressed across multiple campaigns.
The 2023 model year has a separate driveline concern: a rear inner axle shaft can fracture under load and cause an abrupt loss of drive power while the vehicle is in motion.
On 2022 models specifically, there are three additional issues. A software error in the shifter control unit can inadvertently release the parking mechanism, allowing the vehicle to roll away from a parked position. There is also a separate parking-related defect where the parking pawl can momentarily disengage just after the vehicle is shut off, causing unexpected movement if the parking brake was not set. The integrated charging control unit failure that affects the full model run was first identified on 2022 vehicles, where it can similarly cut drive power after the 12-volt battery drains.
