The 1990 Land Rover Range Rover has 5 recalls, the most serious being a corroding fuel tank bottom that can leak fuel and raise the risk of a vehicle fire, alongside a brake line that can wear through against the rear shock absorber and reduce braking effectiveness.
The brake line and fuel tank issues are the primary concerns here. The right rear brake line can rub against the top of the shock absorber until it wears through and leaks fluid, cutting braking force in one of the two hydraulic circuits and extending stopping distances. The fuel tank corrosion issue is separate: the tank floor can rust through over time, allowing fuel to drip near potential ignition sources. There is also a brake light switch concern, which affects vehicles with and without anti-lock brakes: the switch near the brake pedal can fail, leaving the brake lights dark when the brakes are applied or causing them to stay on continuously, either way giving drivers behind no reliable warning that the vehicle is slowing.
