The 2007 Lincoln MKZ has 4 recalls, the most serious being a Takata airbag defect affecting both the driver and passenger side inflators, which can rupture or explode and send metal fragments into the cabin, causing serious injury or death.
Both front airbag inflators are subject to this defect, which is linked to long-term exposure to heat and humidity. Vehicles registered or sold in high-humidity states and territories face the greatest risk, though the recall covers a broad range of affected vehicles.
On the brake side, the anti-lock brake system's hydraulic control unit contains valves that can react with certain brake fluid additives and fail to close fully. When this happens, the brake pedal travels further than normal before the vehicle slows, which reduces stopping ability and raises the risk of a crash.
