This warning sound is required on electric and hybrid vehicles because their motors run nearly silently at low speeds, where the sound would otherwise be the primary cue for pedestrians. When the system fails, the vehicle can approach without any audible signal, raising the risk of injury to people who step into its path. Prior repair attempts did not fully resolve the issue, and a follow-up software correction covers a broader range of model years. Both recalls apply only to hybrid-equipped versions of this vehicle.
