1994 Lincoln Town Car Recalls

The 1994 Lincoln Town Car has 4 recalls, all involving brake failure: loose rear brake hardware and a missing or improperly installed brake pedal clip can each cause a sudden and complete loss of braking with no warning.

Two of the recalls involve the same underlying brake pedal issue: a small retaining clip that locks the push rod connecting the brake pedal to the master cylinder may be missing or not fully seated. If that clip lets go, the push rod disconnects and the brake pedal stops doing anything, leaving the driver with no way to slow the vehicle. This can happen without any warning signs beforehand.

The other two recalls address the rear brake adapter fasteners, bolts and nuts that hold the rear brake assembly to the axle housing. These fasteners can loosen over time and eventually fall off entirely. When that happens, the surrounding hardware shifts and can damage the parking brake assembly, the service brakes, and, on vehicles equipped with anti-lock brakes, the ABS sensor and sensor ring. The result is reduced or lost braking at the rear wheels, and a weakened parking brake that may not hold the car on a slope.
