The 2009 Lincoln Town Car has 2 recalls of equal severity: a fire risk on limousine models where a missing fuel rail shield can allow fuel lines to rupture in a frontal collision, and a steering failure that can cause complete loss of steering control.
The fuel risk affects vehicles built as limousines by Executive Coach, where a shield was omitted from the fuel rail during assembly. In a front-end crash, unprotected fuel lines can bend or break and leak fuel near ignition sources. The steering concern applies to vehicles where the upper intermediate shaft was previously serviced under an earlier recall. If that service was not performed correctly, the shaft can separate from the steering column, leaving the driver unable to steer the vehicle.
