The 2011 Lincoln Town Car has two recalls of equal severity, the more consequential being a steering shaft that can separate and cause a complete loss of steering control.
The steering recall affects vehicles where the upper intermediate steering shaft was previously serviced; if that repair was not performed correctly, the shaft can pull apart, leaving the driver unable to steer. The second recall applies only to limousine models: a fuel rail shield was left off during manufacturing, and in a frontal collision, fuel lines can bend or rupture and leak fuel, which can ignite and cause a fire.
