Summary
The Mazda CX-50 has 8 recalls covering 2023 through 2025 model years, with the most serious affecting 2025 vehicles where the gear shifter can be moved from Neutral to Drive without pressing the brake pedal, allowing the vehicle to move unexpectedly and raising the risk of a crash. Two other 2025 suspension recalls overlap in consequence: front suspension fasteners and steering component fasteners, including wheel hub nuts, tie rod nuts, ball joint nuts, and axle bracket bolts, may not have been torqued properly and can loosen over time, leading to suspension component or wheel detachment and loss of steering control. There is also a 2025 airbag software issue where incorrectly configured restraint control module software can cause the airbag to deploy improperly in a crash.
On 2024-2025 models equipped with a Mazda Genuine Accessory trailer hitch, the hitch assembly bolts can loosen and allow the entire assembly to separate from the vehicle body while towing or driving normally, creating a hazard for other traffic. The 2023 model year has its own set of issues. The anti-lock brake system hydraulic control unit can sustain internal damage that lengthens brake pedal travel and reduces braking force, extending stopping distances. Two separate trailer hitch recalls affect 2023 vehicles with the Mazda Genuine Accessory hitch: in one case the harness can detach and lose contact, and in another the harness may have been installed incorrectly and can contact the exhaust system and be damaged. Both conditions can disable trailer lights and trailer brakes while towing.
